Ladies/Gentlemen,

I plan to bicycle thru West Virginia this summer as part of a bike trip from Cedar Rapids, Iowa to my sister's farm

outside Georgetown, WV. I plan to roughly follow the American Discovery Trail. As parts of this trail appear hard to follow

or not too well kept up, I am asking for your advice on the feasibility of bicycling on some of the West Virginia highways.

The roads I would like advice on are:

-WV 58 between Clarksburg and Bridgeport

-WV 76 between Bridgeport and Philippi

-US 250 between Hopewell and calhoun (around Philippi)

-WV 38 between US250(outside Philippi) and WV 72, by St.George at the Cheat River

-WV 72 between St.George and WV32, just past Red Creek, WV

-County Road 45 between WV32 and Laneville

-Forest Road 19 between Laneville and County Road 28-7 by Hopeville

-County Road 28-7 between Hopeville and WV42

-WV 42 between County Road 28-7 and Scherr

-WV 93 between Scherr and US50 by Claysville

-US 50, WV 972, and US 220 between Claysville and Keyser

-County Road 42-3 between WV42 and Greenland

-WV 25/WV 55 between Hopeville and Petersburg

-WV 42 between Petersburg and Maysville

-County Road 3 between Maysville and Mineral County where it becomes County Road 9

-County Road 9 from Grant County to Short gap

-WV 46 between Keyser and Ft Ashby.

-WV 28 between Ft Ashby and Springfield.

-County Road 1 between Springfield and Green Spring

I realize this is a lot of territory to cover. Please comment on parts that you have bicycled. I am particularly

interested in estimates of traffic use and how safe the road is to bike. Feel free to suggest alternative routes. Thanks.
